Built around 1740, Hopsewee Plantation was one of the South’s major rice plantations and the birthplace of Thomas Lynch, Jr., one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
It is currently a private residence, owned by one of the Carolina Gold Chapter’s members. This National Historic Landmark is open for tours Tuesday through Saturday.
